Top 7 Things to do in Varna, Bulgaria
Varna Cathedral
If you want to see one of the symbols of the city – go to the Cathedral of the Assumption. This beautiful cathedral was built between 1880 and 1886 and is the second largest in Bulgaria (after Alexander Nevsky Cathedral in Sofia). Admission is free, but if you want to take photos inside, you'll be charged. The cathedral is open from 6am to 10pm.
The Pedestrian Zone
Varna’s pedestrian zone starts from the Cathedral passing through the Dramatic Theatre and Nezavisimost square, Knyaz Boris I Street and turning right by Slivnitsa to pass the Festival Complex and taking you all the way to the sea garden and the sea promenade. The pedestrian zone is a great place to do some shopping, dine or enjoy Varna’s nightlife in the countless clubs, bars and restaurants.
The Sea Garden
Fantastic seven kilometers-long park that runs along side the beach. Lots of interesting models and statues adorn the many pathways. It’s great for walking, cycling or blading. It boasts many different plants and flowers, and a small zoo, and a little fairground for the children. So after spending all your money in the shops and cafés, you could come here and sit and relax just to watch the world go by.
The Dolphinarium
Varna’s Dolphinarium offers you a show you will not forget. You will get to know the dolphins closely and watch them play, jump out of the water, sing. One and half hour dolphin show is very attractive for children. It is very crowded in high season so you must be at the entrance at least an hour before the show starts.
The Archaeological Museum
The archaeological museum in Varna is a place worth visiting with its 23 halls with expositions from the Old Stone Age and the Middle Stone Age to the Bulgarian Revival. The oldest ever found items made out of gold are displayed here. Apart from that there's a lot more gold to see from Thracian origins as well as Greek and Roman ceramics and sculptures. There's also a large collection of medieval icons on display. The museum is open Tuesday to Sunday from 10am to 5pm.
The Navy Museum
If you're interested in boats, the Naval Museum is the place to visit. It houses a collection of various items connected to the history of Bulgaria's navy as well as some boats which are displayed in the park outside the museum. The museum is open from Monday to Friday from 10am to 6pm.
Golden Sands Resort
If you're looking for a typical beach holiday, head out to Golden Sands. The resort is located 18 km North of Varna and has indeed a kilometers long stretch of fine golden sand. You have got a vast collection of accommodation here from recently built luxurious hotels to the more modest buildings from socialist times. Golden Sands offers all kinds of recreational activities and is very popular in summer.

Socialism creates hateful people?
Hi, when I went to Germany I noticed that people from East Germany were much more bitter about life than the West Germans. Does this have to do with their past? That East Germany was a Socialist state until 1990 when new elections took place.
I know of a Bulgarian here in the USA who grew up in Germany, but his parents grew up in a Communist state Bulgaria. So I'm assuming they basically had a influence over his political believes. He seems really bitter too, especially towards the USA. I mean if he hates the USA so much why did he come here?
So is it true that socialists harbor more resentment and hate towards others?

The problem with socialism is that it's government run, just like our failing welfare, social security and school programs in the United States. When the government takes over a social program, it eliminates competition. When competition is eliminated, quality starts to suck because their is no motivation to improve. And now we want the government to take over health care??!!
We're going to have lost of resentful sick people on our hands!
