Could it be real that lots of american people don't know where's Iraq on the map ?

In France, lots of Television shows make fun concerning the american understanding. I heard that almost all you can't speak a couple of words of some other language, don't know geography, and not read... caricature or real factor ?

Not just People in america have little understanding on geography or any other language... It basically is dependent on the person whether he/she loves to explore other activities instead of only the usual stuff ^_^
