How do I best arrange for a book cover illustration?
I'm self-publishing a small (24 pg) book. Less than 50 copies. Want to use a painting for cover illustration. Simple agreement, simple fee with artist is what I would like to do. Is it possible to keep it simple? URLs on sample agreements wd/b helpful.
I have found the painting and have found the artist. Now I need advice about the agreement or contract.
I do not own the painting. The artist owns the painting.
Simple contract: You agree to credit and pay the artist a flat fee. The artist agrees that you own the artwork and that you have the right to use the artwork anyway you see fit.
I would recommend getting a lawyer to draw up the contract. You and the artist will both have to sign the contract in front of a public notary.
