Graphic Novels... Lynd Ward ?

Why should Lynd Ward's wordless novel w/pictures - God's Man, be considered a graphic novel?

Wikipedia seems to think so.
In the truest sense of the word, yes, it's a graphic novel.
Although it doesn't contain panels it's still a story told through a series of pictures.
Swiss cartoonist Thomas Ott also creates comics / graphic novels without words.
