Insulating Mats for Electrical Purposes, IS Code 15652, Year 2006

BIS had changed the standard for Electrical Insulation Mats from IS5424 to IS15652, while the earlier is supposed to be composed of Rubber & its derivatives and comes in thickness range 6mm to 25mm the later could be composed of Elastomer that includes latex, rubber, Plastics (thermoplastic), Synthetic compounds that may be natural or synthetic or a combination of both.

 

While Rubber Mats are being used all over the world from past many decades the introduction of synthetic elastomers & plastics are new & recently tried in India.

Going through the BIS standards and Different Electrical Engineering blogs & forums it is observed that still Rubber is being used in Electrical Matting & the difference is observed only in thickness.

 

Rubber & PVC both have good Electrical Insulation Properties, Rubber being better resistant to Chemicals, Temperature, Whether, Acids have its own advantages.

 

Plastics(thermoplastics) on the other hand are better insulators of electricity, Bad ageing properties have its own advantages over rubber.

Construction: Made from Highly Electrical resistant Elastomers, free from any insertions (includes rubbers, latex and Elastomeric compound that may be natural or synthetic or a mixture or a combination of both)

Surface: Upper surface of the mat is having small anti-skid aberration marks (rough surface, without edges) to avoid slippery effects and lower surface is plain.

Dimensions: Sizes are 1mtr x 2mtr or long length and thickness as per classification & designation

Color: Any Color but without Metallic Derivatives.

Working Temp: -10 to 55°C
