How much would you pay to have your own piece of Georgia O'Keeffe ?

A recent press release declared that a body of about 50 letters, between Tuma and O'Keeffe, from 1964-1973, will be auctioned at Sotheby's New York on June 18, 2010, following a five-day preview period beforehand.

During the 1960's and early 70's, Tuma visited O'Keeffe several times at her ranch in Abiquiu, New Mexico, where the two artists exchanged ideas on art and life. With over 50 years separating them, O'Keeffe assumed the role of mentor and Tuma the eager student, looking for a kindred spirit who could provide guidance and direction.

Tuma saved the letters all these years. On June 18, Sotheby's will hold an auction of this complete body of work, starting at 10 a.m. The starting estimate is $20,000-30,000. Mym Tuma is renown and highly respected, for work reflecting the radiant energy of our environment. Her work is in the private collections of Henry Geldzahler, Tipper and Al Gore, and is also in the Hirshhorn Museum in Washington, D.C. She has a retrospective book of her work, "My Life in Art," to be published and due out later this summer.
