Abstract paintings are an important genre of art. These painting do not clearly and explicitly express the theme or a concept of a painter. The meaning of these painting is rather hidden. In such painting, you cannot see a proper face, figure or scene. In fact, what you may discover is various colors, shapes, faces or expressions that do not make sense apparently. This is for the reason that abstract art focuses on an idea indirectly rather than expressing a thought in a simple or direct manner as in the case of simple paintings.
The artist does not follow any particular scheme in the Abstract Paintings. He can express himself through a single or multiple abstract ideas. For the common person, a painting of this type may seem meaningless. However, the real abstract painting is pregnant with meaning. It is just that you can discover their theme only by going deeper into them. This is one reason why many people fail to enjoy abstract painting. It is mostly the intellectuals and the subtle souls who can cherish these sorts of paintings.
Abstract paintings are also considered as a good form of art for the new painters. Since the can use their ideas freely on canvas or paper, these sort of paintings provide them with a good way to step into the arena of paintings. They can use colors, line and shapes just as they desire and thus express their ideas in an easy way. Other than using the brushes you can also use your fingers, knife or cloth to play with the colors for making abstract paintings. There is no rule of thumb in this form of art. This is why the painters have a lot of margin for creativity in these types of paintings.

You can get enough information, idea and methods that can help you to draw abstract paintings and express yourself in a great way. What should I paint (tired of painting abstract)?
I love abstract art, but my art seems simple and childish. I can't draw or paint forms so I would like to do something simple.
I'm not sure if by forms you mean 'people' or just overall forms, but I have a few suggestions.
1.) A landscape (a beach, a forest, a field, whatever strikes your fancy)
2.) A still life (I hated these, but they did help me improve)
3.) Flowers (Sounds silly, I know, but some flowers have some really simple shapes that one painted can be breathtaking)
4.) A self-portrait (It'll be hard, but at least you can call upon your own visage whenever you want AND it's good practice for people overall)
5.) You could do what I like to call the 'Fun and Free Method'. You take various brushes, and other materials, and just have fun with the paint and canvas.
