You Don't Have to Buy Ocean Themed Art for Nursery Design
Designing an underwater nursery is a great way to create a beautiful nursery that any child would be happy to grow up in. If you aren't going with a full mural, then you're going to need ocean themed art for nursery walls, which can easily be done yourself.
Even for the not so artistic in the group, ocean themed art for nursery décor isn't that difficult to do. In fact, you can rapidly create some really beautiful prints to hang on the wall.
There are different types of ocean themes, so choose what you want, above water or below. Above would constitute things like boats and islands, beaches, etc. Below would mean seascapes and fish. You can choose which you prefer.
The first method of creating art is simply to find beautiful photos and print them out on glossy paper. For a more artistic look, there are a few image programs like Photoshop, that will turn them into paintings. Print onto a canvas texture paper and you have what looks like a painting. This is a very simple method of doing things and anyone can handle it, no matter what their artistic level.
Another way to go is to print out an outline from a coloring book and then paint it with acrylic paints. Add your own finishing touches and keep it simple, but bright. This can be a very fun and quick way to get some ocean themed art for nursery walls.
Finally, if you are very artistic, you can easily paint up a nice piece of art. That's not where it ends, though. . . even if you're not into painting, you can create paper mache items to match the theme. A balloon covered in paper mache will turn into a blow fish, long balloons become other types of fish. You could even make your own paper, tinted blue or green, and press it into a starfish mold so it dries in a 3D shape that can be hung on the wall.

First it is a good idea to study the ocean. . . but if you can't go to the beach, study photos and videos. The first thing you should notice is that the the top sides of waves reflect the sky (blue) and the bottom of the waves reflect what is in the water. . . often greens or browns . . . AND what is near the water (sand and vegetation.
Next, if there are waves there will be foam. The ribbons of foam along the shore in a painting will make it look even more realistic if you get it right. I am working on a series right now of ocean colors and foam designs . . . because I love using blues and greens!
If you are seeking to paint the typical breaker in sunlight, the colors of the wave depend on the angle of the sun. The top of the wave will be anywhere from golden to green and the bottom from turquoise to deep violet blue.
And then there is the wet sand. You have to pay close attention to the colors, because if you mix up a sandy color your beach will be flat, uninteresting, and won't look real. The wet sand where the water has receded is often tinged in violet, and the leading edge of the foam often casts a shadow. So does the underside of the wave, but do not paint your shadows in gray or black. . . get creative and pick some analogous colors and mix in a few compliments.
Do not neglect the sky. if the sea is calm, your sky must be too. If you have a wild sea with lots of foam, better have some clouds that look like they mean business!
