They started as a logical way to spread important king proclamations. When they were first used, they were handmade. Today, with advances in printing technology, the poster is more popular and effective than ever for artists and advertisers alike.
There are also many uses for posters. Advertisers use them in formats that are larger than any other in the history of posters. You will find these on huge billboards in almost every major city road. Posters are also used in more personal ways to convey a specific piece of information to the viewer who holds the poster dear. Many people have posters in their bedrooms that display an attitude or phrase that they believe in and use for all parts of their life.
The first uses of posters were just as important as they are today. People used posters in cities to convey information that would directly relate to the townspeople's lives. At this time, posters advanced the art of news greatly. Information was now spread quickly, but even more importantly, the information was spread accurately. Accurate information would inform the townspeople what was happening around their world. This was a big change from a very centered and sensual view of life.
Later in the history of posters, they were used as an art medium. This became greatly popular and significant when printing was advanced enough to mass produce posters at a reasonable price. This allowed artists and advertisers to spread their information as far as they wanted to. This technique made many establishments and people, around the world and throughout history, infamous.
One such establishment was the Moulin Rouge. Toulouse Lautrec designed posters for the Moulin Rouge. This helped the Moulin Rouge become one of the most famous entertainment hot spots the world has ever known. This also helped Toulouse Lautrec become exceedingly famous. His posters are still looked at by millions every year too. That is effective advertising.
Posters have also been used for propaganda throughout history. Generally, posters present one side of the story on whatever subject they are portraying. This has been particularly convenient for people who want to spread information about a public movement or government concepts. When looking at the history of posters, you will find many famous instances of governments promoting war and other grand and dramatic ideas.
The average person of our modern society uses posters to recreate a stunning scene or a great piece of artwork. Posters are their way of obtaining the unattainable. You may not be able to buy the Mona Lisa, but you can still own it by using printed posters.
You can truly have anything your heart desires on a poster. You can have custom printed posters, or you can have posters that were designed around your favorite hero.
