Photoshop 7.0 Hey, i have a pencil sketch drawing & when I print it out it's 2 LITE. HOW CAN I DARKEN PARTS OF

Okay I did that image- adjustment- contrast thing (which is pretty much = to adding a layer and multiplying it) (if that's not true which it looked true to me, then let me knwo why please)
but the eyes got REALLY dark and that made the eyes look demonish. So how can I darken everything but the eyes.
Or how do I darken parts of the sketch (mostly just the hands and forearms weren't darkened enough in the drawing)
Also can someone give a set of easy directions I'm still new to photoshop. thanx
Like is there a way to box it via the lasso and then copy that and just multiply the lassoed area so that part gets darker???
select the eyes >
copy and paste onto another layer
darken the bottom layer only > layer palette > darken
OR adjust mid-range tones in your image > adjust > Levels
erase around edges of eyes (on top layer) if necessary
flatten image
