When a US Sailor wants to call home from the Navy ship are they free? or will they have to pay?
I was on the Carl Vinson for 4 years.
Most sailors use phone cards that they have to buy, but some ratings were given phones and special codes to call places for free(it was meant to be for work-related calls)but everyone used that phone line to call their mama.
So, more than likely, a phone card will be needed.
It's not because the Navy's a POS branch, it's because it costs money to connect a phone call from out in the middle of the ocean to the US. There's a big difference in communications at sea.
