How to paint a scene on a wall? (only if you have tried it)?
I need to make a scene for a sunday school room for kids. Artwork creation itself aside, what kind of paint would you recommend? It has to be cheap and easy to use/mix. I think I need to mix colors to some extent. I wonder if the walls need some special preparation, or if there's a paint choice that enables one to eschew the prior preparation.
I prefer answers from people who have done such a thing and can talk from their experience, regardless if they're amateurs or professionals.
Acrylics are the best for painting murals, which is what you are doing. Oils will never dry.
I started to paint a mural on my kitchen wall, but made a mistake. When I went to clean it up, ALL the paint started coming off, down to the drywall. I found out then that the previous owner of my house painted directly over the drywall without priming first. What a mess.
I use Liquitex acrylics. And no, you don't want to eschew the prep work. Depending on how long ago the wall was originally painted, you should probably wash the wall to make sure it is clean. If it has oil based paint on it, it should be primed with an acrylic primer, or the paint will not adhere.
