How do you install Gate Hook and Eye locks?
They look like this http://www.jackstoolshed.com/index/page/product/product_id/1571/product_name/2-Piece+Gate+Hook+and+Eye+Set+-+Regular+and+Spring-Loaded+Safety+Latch but without the spring part. I need to know how to install them because I have no instructions. I don't know if I should hammer it in a bit, then screw the rest in, or what.
First, put the hook in the eyelet and find the location where you want it to go and holding both of them together and hooked with the points of the screw facing ( away from you ) as strait as you can or parallel to each other . Then mark with pen or pencil where both screws will go the hook side and the eyelet side.
Then drill a starter hole with a drill bit a little smaller in diameter then the screws themselves. Don't hammer it because you could ruin the screws or the wood where you are putting it into. and you need only drill it in far enough so the screws have something to grab.and then once that is done screw them in until you can't see the screw and just see the round lopes .
