The United States is a country of power and unity and at one point in time other countries may have seen the United States as a super power or land of opportunity because of our worldwide technology, military power, and leadership however, that has drastically changed over the past few years because of the economy, recession, and past leadership skills.
The United States plays a role in international peacekeeping. Throughout the past other countries have seen the U.S, as a world power because the United States is a country of power and opportunity. The United States is known to have the world’s strongest military power. An article in The New York Times states“the United States should conduct peacekeeping operations in other countries. By helping to achieve a more stable, secure and peaceful world, America can hope that the world’s economy will thrive and individuals in other countries, as well as American citizens will benefit.” If the human race wants a more peaceful world peacekeeping is the answer. U.S. peacekeeping missions have taken place in such places as Somalia and East Timor. Many immigrants from all over the world come to the United States just to receive an education. For example many immigrants from different countries in Africa, China etc. compete with each other to win scholarships to travel to the U.S. to brighten their futures and receive an education from ivy leagues; this goes the same for job opportunities in America.
The United States has continued to advance itself over the past 10 – 20 years. The United States has not only advanced in technology, but world leadership as well. I believe that if the United States is able to defend other countries as well as it then that makes it a world power. In The World is Flat” Thomas Friedman argues that the idea of making the economic bigger or developing new economic areas and in jobs in the U.S. to replace those that are lost. Reading that passage from the Friedman article, the message I received is that Friedman is an optimist who relies on growing the global economy. Dr. Anderson reports that “the U.S. has the ability to shove ourselves down other countries throats weather they want us there or not”
I asked Dr. Anderson in what ways did the election of President Barrack Obama change how the world sees us? Dr. Anderson responded by saying that “the election of President Obama makes us conscious that the U.S. is not just a country of fools compared to former President George Bush.” President Obama winning the election has given America a more pragmatic outlook. “It has given us a more reasonable view of the world. We now have moral authority” (Dr. Anderson).
The United States as we once knew it had absolute power, and unity; over the years the country’s world power has drastically changed. The article Kidnapped in Pakistan, composed by Arm states that the sister of a kidnapped and murdered man in Pakistan felt it best to not involve the United States government. Ayesha chose not to involve the United States government because she felt that the chances of negotiating her brother’s release with criminals, terrorists were higher if the U.S. government loathed on the local scene.” I asked my professor of anthropology; with all the recent events that has happened over the past few years, if he sees the America as a superpower? My professor responded by saying “superpower in itself is silly” (Dr. Anderson). Since 9/11 many people believe that the United States is no longer a unity, we have become a country that is divided. “Every man for him” I believe if we can not come together as a unity then how can we be a world power?

In Obama's speech a few days ago he seemed to suggest that the United States had obligations to intervene in foreign affairs that other country's do not. Do you agree with him?
The United States has absolutely no obligation to interfere. In fact our first President warned against getting entangled in foreign affairs. The Monroe doctrine says other countries should keep their nose out of America. We ignored that good advice and here we are, up to our necks in the soup.
