Two Things Most Unnoticed When Purchasing Rattan Floor Vases
People who are purchasing rattan floor vases for the first time should check the vase very carefully for features that are lacking and features that they may not want. One of the things that rattan floor vases really need is a heavy wooden base. This part of the vase is doubly important for vases whose bases are narrower than the widest portion of the body. The wooden slab adds weight to the vase and prevents it from dropping on its side. And then again, people purchasing rattan vases should think whether the diameter of the neck is wide enough for their purposes. Slender necks are less convenient for doing a wet arrangement of plants.
The wooden base of rattan floor vases is essential
Because rattan is light and the weave of a rattan vase is airy, something should be done about giving it solid weight. The best rattan vase manufacturers fit their products with a floor of dense hardwood. Vases of inferior quality may furnish floors made of soft wood. It will be necessary to handle and manipulate the vase to determine whether the weight of the wooden slab can keep the vase steady. This characteristic is particularly important if the vase is to be used for floral arrangements. It will be impossible to create asymmetrical ensembles for wobbly vases.
Select the neck width that is suitable for your purposes
Rattan floor vases with narrow necks cannot be used for wet floral arrangements unless they are lined with water-proofed material inside. However, these linings are usually made of plastic material which is prone to tearing. They may also wear out in time. The best way to make these vases capable of holding water is to fit them with auxiliary vases made of stoneware, porcelain, glass or crystal. But in order to be able to do that, the neck of the vase has to be wide enough to accommodate the second vase.
If you are planning to purchase a rattan floor vase, there are some factors that you will need to consider carefully. Foremost among these is whether the vase is stable enough to be propped on the floor and used with floral arrangements. Secondly, if the vase is to be used for fresh flower arrangements, it should be able to retain water. Some narrow-necked rattan vases are purposely fitted with water proof material in the inside. This method is not as reliable as inserting vases than can be used for fresh flowers and foliage.
Besides the two mentioned above, there are other things to examine in rattan floor vases before you purchase them. The smoothness of the finish is likely to affect the durability of the lacquer.
